Well, tomorrow I head up to the Wheatland festival. I have never been before, but I've heard all about it for years from people who do go.
I'm bringing three instruments with me, let's hope I don't bring them home!
I'll post my observations of the festival here when I get home, along with some pictures from the Luthier's tent! Bryan Galloup will have some instruments there, as well as at least two other luthiers so there will be some eye candy I am sure! I suppose I could post pics of the three I am taking...

And last is a cedar/koa L-00!
I've been working on my photograpy for my instruments, after I got some good hints from the ASIA meeting. These aren't perfect yet but they are better! I think I need to darken the background.

Beautiful, Mark. It really shows some remarkable versatility in scope and style. Good luck at the festival.

BTW, where is Weatland?

Well, Wheatland was a real experience, and I am still reccuperating. Everyone who goes there knows that it's really one giant campfire jam session with music till dawn if you can hold out. I suppose this is true, but I made myself scarce long before then. I didn't really get around very much to see the sights, instead I stayed in the Instrument Makers' tent and talked with folks coming through as well as other makers I met. I got to spend a bit of time with Bryan and his nice wife Susan, that was really great. I met Eldon Whitford who was really nice, and quite a funny man as well so he made it interesting! Eldon said he would join up to our group, in fact Bryan said that he'll come to the next meeting and give a talk about gibson guitars- that will be a treat. Two other builders that I met were also really great- Sven Gonstead, and Paul Newson. Sven said he would like to sign up, and Paul too but Paul said he's really quite a recluse and doesn't have a computer....and maybe I should give up my computer, if it would help me make such beautiful and killer mandolins and violins! I was impressed by both of these folks' work. I also saw MGL member John Hall and his wife. It was a great time, and I'll be going back next year. I hope Lance can come as well, and we can have some sort of MGL presence there, maybe we can make something special out of it. Mark Swanson38607.7149305556

Man, I wish I'd made it! Had intended to make plans to go, but as usual let it slip my mind until it was all over. I went once as a kid, and now have even more reason to go and see and learn. Maybe next year.
